 HSU’s Aquaculture Sales Program

“A commercial approach to benefit our students”

The HSU Fish Hatchery is rearing trout from egg stage to maturity. Two year old mature broodstock fish are spawned to produce the next generation of fish for research and educational purposes.

Within our Aquaculture Sales Program excess fish stock are sold for private stocking of ponds and aquaponics systems.

The Aquaculture Sales Program provides students with valuable training in all techniques necessary to raise and prepare fish for sales (fish growth prediction, weighing, shipping preparation, etc.). Depending on our customer’s interest this may also present students with the opportunity to track survival and growth of stocked hatchery fish after transfer.

The income from HSU’s fish sales benefits student employees within the program and helps upgrade the facility.
